Tisbury School 7-8 Special Education Program

7th and 8th grade students who receive services in the Resource Room have learning disabilities that affect their progress in the middle school general education curriculum. They may demonstrate some difficulty in reading fluency, decoding, comprehension, written expression, math concepts and/or organization. Usually, these students are able to manage grade level curriculum with only mild to moderate accommodations and modifications.

In accordance with their Individual Educational Programs (IEPs), students receive academic support services either in a small group in the Resource Room and/or in their content area classes.

The goal of the 7-8 Special Education Program is teaching learning strategies to students in order to help them compensate for their area(s) of learning difficulty. Understanding their own strengths and weaknesses as learners, as well as self-advocacy are the major components of the program.
