Library Media Center

The mission of the Library Media Program is to ensure that all students are able to locate, interpret and use ideas and information effectively in order to meet the specific goals and objectives of the Tisbury Elementary School K - 8 Curriculum. The Library Media Center is a focal point of the school's instructional program, providing resources for all curriculum areas, integrating reference skills instruction into classroom assignments, exposing students to a variety of literary genre and motivating them to read for enjoyment.

The responsibility for coordinating the selection of instructional materials and making the recommendation for purchase rests with our professionally trained personnel. We invite anyone who is concerned with specific material to come to the school and discuss the matter with the library media specialist. A request for reconsideration of material may be completed. Parents are invited to volunteer in the Library Media Center. If interested, call Patricia Ryan at 696-6527.

Lost/Overdue Books

Lost books must be paid for. Failure to fulfill such responsibility may lead to the withholding of a final report card, transfer of student records and/or use of the library at the discretion of the principal. Books that are a month overdue, may result in detention and/or the ineligibility list.

Technology

The Tisbury School is supported by a Microsoft network and uses both Apple and Windows machines in the classrooms, library and computer labs. We require that parents and students sign an acceptable use policy for Internet access. In addition we monitor the use of electronic materials and actively teach a technology curriculum, which includes video and computer skills. If you have a specific question regarding the use of technology in the school, please call Sue Leonard at 696-6561.

Multimedia and /Technology Use Guidelines

  • All students must have parental permission for use of the Internet in school. A copy of our Acceptable Use Policy appears in the separate policy handbook.

  • Deliberate unauthorized use of software or systems tools by students will result in the loss of computer privileges throughout the school.

  • Unnecessary printing is discouraged. We encourage all students to take notes from these reference sources and use them as research sources for projects.

  • To better integrate technology, the technology committee will make equipment decisions based upon staff use and knowledge of equipment.

  • Students and staff are expected to be knowledgeable of and abide by current copyright laws.
