Fourth grade is an exciting year for our students as they continue to build on their learning- academically, socially, and emotionally. Building independence for each student is an important part of their Fourth-Grade experience. Using a variety of strategies to support each studentŐs social-emotional and academic skills allows them to apply this knowledge at home and in the classroom as they learn and grow. The goal is to continually support students as they gain self-confidence, stronger public speaking skills and a sense of community with their peers.

Students complete a variety of tasks that may include posters, slide shows, public speaking opportunities, historical research, and partnering with their peers to share ideas and create group projects. Each of these tasks helps students to show what they know and enjoy accessing their lessons in a way that best suits their learning style.

Throughout the year students will use the Journeys Reading Program as well as read full length novels. In addition, text such as National Geographic for students and Scholastic Storyworks give students an opportunity to explore a variety of genres as they read and learn about the world around them. Our goal in writing is to help students continue to develop their writing skills using narrative, persuasive, informative, and fictional writing pieces. Everyday Math 4 helps students gain valuable skills as they learn to show what they know and explain their mathematical process and reasoning during their lessons. Students will also continue to build their fact fluency in both addition/subtraction and multiplication/division throughout the year. Science and Social Studies will be taught throughout the year using both text and hands on opportunities to support their understanding and knowledge in these subjects. Supplies List
