Teaching Philosophy
As a special educator I believe that each child is a unique individual who requires a caring and stimulating environment in which to grow emotionally, intellectually, and socially. It is my wish as an educator to help students meet their fullest potential in these areas by providing a classroom setting that is safe, supports risk-taking, invites the sharing of ideas, and provides an opportunity to work in quiet, distraction free setting.

Classroom Expectations:
Students are expected to work hard throughout their school day. While in the resource room we work to create a quiet, distraction free environment where all students can learn skills that are difficult for them. I work closely with my students to create a trusting bond, so that they will feel safe and supported in their learning.

Specialized Programming
In addition to supporting the classrooom curriculum and instruction, students often require specialized programming in order to meet their intellectual potential. Decoding/encoding programs such as Orton-Gilligham, Wilson, and Corrective Reading are just a few of the reading remediation programs that we currently offer to support our struggling readers.

Curriculum Overview
At the Tisbury School we are fortunate to be able to offer extra support in the academic areas of reading, writing and mathematics in addition to students' regularly scheduled academic times in the classroom. Students who are on an Individualized Education Program (IEP) are working towards their individual goals and objectives specified on their IEPs. Additional students are selected to participate in small group instruction based on teacher recommendations as well as assessment scores from unit/theme tests, GRADE, G-MADE, Symphony Math, Scholastic Reading Inventory, MCAS and DIBELS Next.

SPED teachers and specialists are able to pull small groups of students to ensure that each child is getting the individual support needed to make and maintain progress. Sometimes the groups meet in the regular classrooms, and other times the groups will meet in another available classroom or space.
